Why should people meditate? This is the question that many have asked themselves in the past. Meditation techniques can aide in improving personal well-being, performance at the workplace as well as help to establish overall life balance.

During this time of unstable and growing global recession, it is essential to gain a peace within oneself in an effort to handle whatever may be thrown your way. Instead of speeding through life, meditation techniques can help teach us to slow down, which will benefit our overall health and even our well being.
No particular skill is need to learn how to meditate through a simple process. The only skill required is finding a nice quiet place to sit with your spine straight up while beginning to make your body calm. Count to ten with yours eyes closed and breathing in slowly. For the same amount of time hold your breathe, then exhale slowly. This procedure should be repeated six times or as many as you like.

Mentally say to yourself Hong while breathing in and Sau (rhymes with saw)while breathing out. This chant will help you to feel calm and centered.

If you are having problems feeling your breath, concentrate on your breathing procedure of your chest increasing and contracting while sensing the diaphragm.

Staying focused on the chant and your awareness of breath will help when your mind starts to wonder. You will come into the meditative state as you feel things gradually diminishing through concentrating on breathing.

Practice the meditation technique for as long as needed once you have mastered it. Why not give it a try if it will make you feel better within yourself?
